HOOP.

HOOP services

Four rides. One price line.

Every product runs on the same fare engine: public transport, plus 40% — capped at KES 200 above the matatu. Below are live sample prices for a real commute — Ongata Rongai to Westlands, off-peak.

Three passengers sharing a back seat on the Nairobi evening commute

HOOP Seat

KES 240
Ongata Rongai → Westlands · 21.7 km · about 62 min

The everyday HOOP. Match into a car already going your way and split the road. Priced straight off the matatu fare — 40% over it, and never more than KES 200 above it — the same maths at midnight as at 7 AM.

  • Up to 6 seats per trip
  • Best price per km in the network
  • Peak or off-peak, markup never moves

beta

HOOP Autonomous Shuttle

KES 205
Ongata Rongai → Westlands · 21.7 km · about 68 min

Electric low-capacity shuttles on fixed corridors, running on a schedule whether or not a driver is free. Piloting on the Thika stretch first.

  • Fixed-route, always on
  • Runs below a shared seat
  • Marked beta until your county opens

Example only — on the ride screen, prices come from your actual route. Private hail on the same trip runs about KES 690.

Lady HOOP

A women-only network inside the whole network.

One toggle asks for a woman driver — same fare engine, same route pricing, same 40% line capped at KES 200. The HOOP team confirms the match on your call, so you always know who is arriving before you step out.

How the toggle works

  1. 1. Flip Lady HOOP on the ride screen — it applies to the whole request.
  2. 2. The HOOP team looks for a woman driver on your route and confirms it with you.
  3. 3. Your trip code and the SOS button stay on every leg, exactly like the rest of the network.

Live map

Every route is planned and priced on a real street map of Kenya.

Trip PIN

A 4-digit PIN, read to you by the HOOP team when your driver is confirmed.

SOS

One tap sends your name, trip code and GPS position to the HOOP team.

M-PESA approval

You approve the request on your own phone. Nothing is charged here.

All 47 counties

Not six corridors. From Lodwar to Malindi, point to point.

For drivers

You keep 80% of every fare.

Post a trip once and HOOP fills the empty seats along your route before you start the engine. Your 80% share is recorded against your name for every completed trip and paid to your M-PESA number.

Questions people actually ask

Say where you are going on the home screen — type it, or tell HOOP Brain in plain language in English or Kiswahili. The fare engine prices every product on that road. The HOOP team then calls to confirm a driver, the exact pickup point and the fare, and shares your trip PIN. You give that PIN to your driver at pickup.

Set a pickup and a drop-off on the ride screen, pick a product — shared seat, direct, Crew pass or autonomous shuttle — and send the request with your name and M-PESA number. Nothing is charged on this site: the confirmation call comes first, then the M-PESA prompt arrives on your own phone for you to approve.

Every trip carries a 4-digit PIN you check against your driver at pickup, an SOS that sends your name, trip code and GPS position to the HOOP team, and a driver whose ID, licence and log book are verified before their first fare. Lady HOOP asks for a woman driver, and the team confirms that match on your call. In immediate danger, call 999 or 112.

It is the line that funds everything the matatu skips: driver pay that keeps 80% of the fare with them, trip tracking, insurance and a support team that can see your live location. The markup is fixed by the fare engine — no surge pricing, no dynamic roulette — and on a long run the uplift stops at KES 200 over the matatu fare, so the gap never widens with distance.

The 40% rule and the KES 200 cap never change; the base does. Metro, urban and rural corridors have different matatu benchmarks and minimum fares (KES 50 / 40 / 30), so the same distance prices differently in Nairobi and Turkana.

Nothing is charged on this site. You send a ride request, the HOOP team calls to confirm your driver and the exact fare, and only then does an M-PESA request arrive on your own phone for you to approve. No cards, no in-app wallets, no deductions you didn’t confirm.

A recurring daily seat — same route, same time, reserved every working day — billed per day at roughly 25% under what a single shared seat costs. Pause any morning you’re not riding.

It is piloting on the Thika corridor now and shows as beta everywhere else. Crew pass holders and frequent riders on a covered route get first allocation when a county opens.
